David Guetta

The world's Number One DJ

French dance music was not a major export unit David Guetta appeared. Meet the superstar DJ who's making the world dance!

David Guetta always wanted to mix music. At age 13, the French teenger mixed his first albums at home, and at 14 he started organizing parties in his home. He thought: "I want to be a DJ - I don't need to be good at Maths!" On 1984, at only age 17, David got a job as a DJ in a club in Paris. He soon got a reputation for being a good DJ with a talent for mixing music.

Friends...
Today, David's club night in Ibiza is famous around the world. He goes there on his private jet and stays in his luxury villa: it's the sort of place you see in a James Bond film. That is because David is now superstar DJ: he plays dance festivals to 80,000 fans, earns more than 3 million euros a year and makes albums featuring stars like Rihanna and Flo Rida.



The Titanic

Titanic, the 1997 film by James Cameron, is out in 3D. The story is about Jack (Leonardo DiCaprio) and Rose (Kate Winslet), two passengers from different social classes who meet on the Titanic's first voyage. Rose is a first-class passenger and she shouldn't speak to Jack, who is in third-class. But then they fall* in love. It's an emotional film with a tragic ending*.

WRITING:

MY DAY:
I usually get up at eight o'clock, then I dress. I have breakfast at half past eight. After that I go to school by bike with my friends at 8:40. The schools starts at nine o'clock. I'm always in school lunch. The schools finishes at 5:00 and I go to my house, there I do my homework. I'm finished to my homework, I go to chatting on the internet with my friends. After dinner at ten o'clock I have a shower and when I am going to bed at eleven o'clock.

MY WEEK:
On Monday I go to classes seven to eight.

MY WEEKEND:

Some days I go with my father and some days I'm here.On Saturday I do my homework and 
then I meet my friends. On Sunday I finished do my homework and realx.

Bob Marley is a legend around the world. But it was a long journey from the poverty of Jamaica to international success. When he was a boy in the 1959s, Jamaica was still a British colony. It became independent in 1962. The culture was a mix of African traditions and British customs, but there were few opportunities for AfroJamaicans. One of them was music!

English singer Jessie J has had a great few months. Her debut album, Who Are You, has been a big hit. It has the singles "Do It Like a Dude", "Price Tag" and "Nobody's Perfect". Jessie, age 23, sings pop, soul and R&B, but she became fomuos as a songwriter for Miley Cyrus.

Pitbull is a Cuban-American rapper and performer who sings in English and Spanish. In his 2011album Planet Pit, he sang with T-Pain and Ne-Yo. He also sang with Jennifer Lopez on her single "On the Floor". It's good to have famous friends.

Johnny Depp is back as the world's favourite pirate, Jack Sparrow. In the fourth Pirates film, Jack meets Angelica, a woman from his past, played by Penelope Cruz. He is not sure if she loves him or if she wants to find the Fountain* of Youth. When Angelica takes Jack onto pirate Blackbeard's ship*, Jack goes on another adventure. Every year there is the festival of 'Sant Martirià'. It is the 24th of October. People go dancing the 'sardana', the festival is celebrated after the music, competition for orchestras.

People usually come back, they like to leave the 'Plaça Major', go to 'Parc de la Draga' and also parties have to Banyoles.

On the parties of 'Sant Martirià' I like going out friends and do different activites, it something different and we like what we do. I like it because they are different from ordinay days.

In my class there are 27 students, one is frome Morocco, frome Gambia, another from Romania, two from Africa, one in Vietnam and the rest from Catalonia. At my school we study English, Catalan and Spanish. The languages we speak in the class, and it are the Catalan and Spanish. My opinion of English is that it is very difficult. What I wants is to improve vocabulary, pronunciation and grammar. With the strategies on page 30, helps us to study more English and learn more about it.

NEW YORK Ten years after the tragedy

On 11 September 2001, the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center in New York were destroyed in a terrorist attack. Four young people from the USA, the UK and France remember that terrible day...

Lyle, age 25, Memphis, USA.
"I was 15 on the day pf the attack. I was at school, and saw rhe second plane* hit the Twin Tower live* on TV. We didn't feel* the trauma in the same way as the people of New York, but we were angry. I also felt* scared*. My country was under attack and I thought I was going to see armies* in the streets".

Olivia, age 25, France.
"I was 15 on the day of the attack. I watched it on TV in France. Cameras were doing close-ups* on the people who were jumping* from the Twin Towers. I felt* shocked and sad when I understood what had happend. But I wasn't worried* about France. They cleared* the Montparnasse Tower because it's the highest* point in Paris. It didn't seem safe*".


THE ATTACKS
On September 11, four planes* were hijacked* by terrorist. Two crashed* into the Word Trade Center in New York, one hit the Pentagon and another crashed in Pennsylvania. 2,996 people died in the country's worst terrorist attack in history.
